In addition to my work as a clinical psychologist I have trained and have worked as a life coach. Psychological therapy and coaching are two separate disciplines requiring different specialized training. In my practice I offer coaching as separate professional service to therapy. Coaching may be beneficial for individuals who are attempting to obtain specific life goals and need assistance in order to reach them.
As a coach I help my clients carefully define their goals and determine the best path to reach them under the current circumstances. Together, we determine what steps are necessary to take in order to obtain the goal and reasonable a timeline in which to achieve the objective. With a professional partner to hold you to a feasible timetable, goals that were previously abstract become concreate and reachable.
It is important to determine from the initial consultation whether it is coaching or therapy that is best suited to your needs, I build on my experience in both fields to do this. With this, my training as a clinical psychologist impacts on my work as a coach and I use my professional knowledge to assist my clients. I also sometimes find it appropriate to apply coaching techniques in therapy in order to help my clients reach personal and professional goals.
